Completed Doctoral Program in Intelligent Systems, Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University in 1998 (Ph.D. in Engineering).
Worked at NEC Central Research Laboratories (1996–2003), Associate Professor at Kyushu University Graduate School (2003–2010), and Professor at the same university (2010–2018) before assuming his current position.
Throughout his career, he has consistently engaged in research, development, and commercialization of wireless communication systems.
His invented transmission diversity method (commonly known as SSDT) was adopted as a global standard for third-generation mobile communications in 2000 and has been incorporated into several billion mobile phones and smartphones worldwide.
Since 2003, he has been involved in research and development of wireless backhaul for small cells.
From 2007 to 2016, he served as Project Leader for the MIMO-MESH Project, Phase II of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Intellectual Cluster Creation Project.
Founded PicoCELA Inc. in 2008 while serving at Kyushu University. He has served as chairperson and member on multiple committees of academic societies, governments, and municipalities in Japan and abroad.
Delivered numerous invited lectures internationally. Recipient of multiple awards, including the 2016 EY Entrepreneur of the Year Kyushu Regional Representative.
Holds over 60 registered patents (domestic and international) and has authored over 100 research papers.
Co-author of “Latest Trends in Wi-Fi Network Technologies Toward Gigabit 2013–2014” (Impress Business Media) and “Advances in 3G Enhanced Technologies for Wireless Communications” (Artech House), among others.
